The intended platform's priority is 'stable'. IF you want to tweak, over clock, etc., NUC and mini-PC's aren't the platform. My NUC7i7 will remain with it's original BIOS. But the removal of controls was still annoying.

It also gave you control of iGPU clocks but only to turn them higher and I never saw any benefit from those as the iGPU was already thermally constrained.Īnd my one experience with NUC BIOS updates (in my NUC7i5) resulted in removing the ability to undervolt, however the overall performance after the BIOS update was fractionally higher than even my undervolted settings so (grumble, grumble) it was a net positive. However in general, Intel has been removing BIOS options since at least the Broadwell NUC times as that BIOS allowed memory subtiming control as well as manual control of 1 and 2-core turbo clocks in addition to base clocks. I got my 8i5BEH in October and have not done any BIOS updates and hopefully never will, so I have a lot of options in XTU to manage this which seem to be missing in your 8i5.

Unfortunately undervolting is a great way to squeeze a little more power (or lower fan noise) out of a thermally-constrained chassis like a NUC. Seems that you may have one of the newer BIOSes? According to others, the newest BIOSes remove the ability to undervolt in order to thwart the Plundervolt strategy.
